The S-series is a customizable ultrasound system that adapts to a variety of medical procedures and environments. Pensar was responsible for the mechanical design of the S-series cart. We also had involvement in unit and cart industrial design. By listening to customers we increased usability resulting in a cost-competitive system that creates new opportunities and promotes expansion in existing markets.

Pensar contributed to a year-long, clinician driven design process. We used practitioner interviews, real-time usage observation, and customer feedback to improve the ultrasound experience. Pensar executed most of the part designs with 7 injection molds, 8 thixo molds, and an extrusion die. The design was recognized by both the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) and the International Forum Design (IF) with awards.

Several key features set the S-series apart from other ultrasound solutions.

  • Intuitive, adaptive touchscreen interface with a clinician-driven menu.  When time is of the essence, the S-Series is ready to perform the right exam at the right time with minimal set-up.
  • DirectClear Technology provides better imaging with increased penetration and contrast. With its high visibility, non-reflective screen, and wide viewing angle, the S-Series displays patient scans clearly from across the room.
  • Switch quickly between exam types with embedded dual transducer connector. Two transducers can be connected simultaneously; change from one transducer to the other with two taps of the screen. Two screen taps will also easily switch between exam types on the same transducer.
  • Keep crowded areas clearer with small ultrasound footprint and redesigned stand with extra storage. The SII has a zero footprint when mounted on a wall, connected to an articulating arm, or used with a small-footprint optional stand, so you can bring the image closer to you.
  • Optional cord management solutions make transporting the machine between rooms easier than ever. The SII’s award-winning design was created using clinician input, as well as thousands of hours of real-time observation of ultrasound machines in use in clinical settings.
