Project: CX50 Cart

Mechanical Engineering

The CX50 was designed from the ground up with the needs of patient and practitioner in mind. Pensar designed a completely new medical cart to accommodate existing components and be in line with the Philips family. We contributed heavily to the product development process – from engineering to project management.

Pensar provided the process driven leadership to release the cart to market in a 1 year development cycle. This allowed Philips to realize significant cost savings (Reduced cart COGs in half – from $2,000/cart to $1,000/cart). The CX50 became the new benchmark for product development at Philips, for “ways of working” and cost + schedule efficiencies.

The CX50 delivers premium class performance in a compact ultrasound system. The CX50 POC’s compact size allows a practitioner to effortlessly maneuver in the confined space of the perioperative environment. Battery operation means that a procedure can be initiated quickly. The system and cart are combined into an ergonomic unit that is slim, lightweight, and highly mobile. It can be swiveled and locked to be set up quickly anywhere it needs to be.

    • Terminated poor supply chain partnership with external cart manufacturer

  • Designed and incorporated custom USB 3.0 hub
